The quickest way to reach Tulela is by flying into Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS), which is approximately 45 – 60 minutes from the lodge by road.
Daily scheduled flights connect Hoedspruit with Johannesburg, George and Cape Town, making travel straightforward from both South Africa and international gateways.
Airport transfers can be organised by the Tulela team, ensuring a smooth arrival from the moment you land. Whether travelling from within South Africa or overseas, the combination of scheduled and charter flight options makes Tulela easily accessible while retaining the sense of being far removed from busy everyday life.
Tulela is approximately 45 – 60 minutes from Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport by road. Guests driving from Johannesburg should allow around six to seven hours, while the journey from Mbombela (Nelspruit) takes approximately three hours. Well-maintained tar roads lead most of the way, with the final section following reserve access roads.
For international visitors, the most convenient routes are to connect through Johannesburg or Cape Town before flying to Hoedspruit.
Airport transfers and private road transfers can be arranged on request, allowing guests to travel comfortably from arrival to the lodge.
The Klaserie is a year-round safari destination, with each season offering something different.
Summer (November to March) brings warm temperatures, afternoon thunderstorms and lush vegetation. This is also the best time for migratory birds and for seeing many young animals following the summer rains. Autumn (April and May) is generally mild, with comfortable temperatures, clear skies and gradually thinning vegetation that improves wildlife viewing. Winter (June to August) is dry, with cool mornings, sunny days and very little rainfall. Animals often gather around permanent water sources, making this one of the most popular times for game viewing. Spring (September and October) is characterised by warmer weather and increasingly active wildlife as the first rains approach. While conditions change throughout the year, every season offers excellent opportunities to experience the remarkable wildlife and landscapes of the Greater Kruger.
A valid passport is required for international visitors, and guests should check visa requirements before travelling to South Africa.
The Klaserie is situated in a low-risk malaria area, so it is advisable to consult your doctor or travel clinic regarding appropriate precautions before departure.
Lightweight clothing in neutral colours is recommended for game drives, together with a warm layer for early mornings during winter. Sunscreen, a hat and insect repellent are useful throughout the year.

Pack comfortable clothing in neutral colours such as khaki, green, beige or grey to blend naturally into the bush environment. Comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat are all essential.
Insect repellent is recommended throughout the year, along with any personal medication you may require during your stay. Binoculars are a worthwhile addition for birdwatching and more distant wildlife sightings, while a camera with spare batteries or charging equipment will help capture memorable moments.
Most importantly, pack with comfort in mind, as days are relaxed and centred around time spent enjoying the surrounding wilderness. A swimsuit and active wear could be a great addition should you wish to swim or make use of the gym.
